There was much discussion about the definition of leadership throughout history, but so far there is no concrete agreement on the most practical definition of leadership. Abu Daud Silong and Zaharah Hassan (2009) has stated that despite many ways been defined leadership, and after reviewing some key definitions, there are four key elements that are important for personal headship growth.
The first leadership is a group phenomenon that involves leaders and followers, second, the leadership comes in a context, community, organization or group; the third leadership involves influence and the last leadership involves achieving goals.
Based on the understanding it can be said that leadership is about influence, and to influence, a leader must have followers and influence the process that occurs in the context of some kind of purpose. To achieve that a visionary leader must be able to use an effective approach to influence others.
One approach is through self-development as this blog saw it as an effective tool for leadership development. Self-development take personal responsibility for their own learning and development through assessment, reflection, and take action. It is the process by which an individual improve his body and mind through conscious effort. In this process, an individual knows himself better, mentally and emotionally.
